Giving

Since we opened our doors back in 1982, our goal has been to offer quality early child care and education to a diverse community. We believe in embracing the whole community that gave birth to our children. Their diversity is not only acknowledged, but celebrated at ACC.

There are many ways to support ACC’s mission. ACC is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization. To discuss any of the following support options, please contact us at 626.797-6142 or email us at admissions@accc-kids.org.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) Can Still be Made
• The minimum age for making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD, also known as the IRA Rollover) from your IRA is still 70½, and the annual limit is still $100,000. The QCD is still available for 2020 even though required minimum distributions (RMDs) have been suspended.

Donor Advised Funds (no timing limitations)
ACC also welcomes gifts from Donor Advised Funds (DAFs). We are a 501(c)3 organization and are a qualified recipient of grants from donor-advised funds held at community organizations and financial institutions. Many people with funded DAFs are considering releasing additional funds this year, in recognition of the unprecedented needs among non-profit organizations such as ACC.

Annual Benefit
Our Annual Benefit, It Takes a Community, is a festive event that includes food, entertainment and a live and silent auction. We often honor an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to children in the Pasadena/Altadena area with the Community Partnership Award.

Past Honorees
Past honorees have included Cristina Alvarado, Mike Babcock, Renatta Cooper, Al Lowe, Kristin Maschka, Celestine Walker McFearn, Jaylene Moseley, Mary Lois Nevins, Peggy Sisson, George Van Alstine, and Joe Wyatt.

Cash Donations

ACC Operating Fund

ACC’s operations are partially supported by a combination of tuition paid by families and our partners, including Early Head Start, CalWorks and other public agencies. We also depend on the generosity of our individual donors who each year make cash gifts ranging from $25 to many thousands.

ACC Scholarship Fund

Our Scholarship Fund is used to support ACC families who are unable pay the full price of tuition and who are not eligible for public subsidies. These funds are distributed based on financial need. The economic diversity of our families enriches every child’s education at ACC.

In 2020, ACC was honored to receive a $5,000 grant from the Bolton Foundation for our Scholarship Fund.

ACC Facilities Fund

Our buildings and grounds are donated under a long term lease by the Altadena Baptist Church, but we are responsible to maintain our facilities. Throughout our over 30 years of operating history, we have received grants from the Pasadena Community Foundation and others to outfit and update our facilities to provide an ideal learning environment for the young children in our care.

Shop!

ACC is a participant in the  AmazonSmile program.  Whenever you shop with Amazon, go to the Smile program and sign up for Altadena Children’s Center.  A portion of each of your purchases will go to support ACC!

Pledges

A gift pledge is a formal agreement noting the donor’s intention to make a gift. A pledge offers donors an opportunity to give a gift now or in the future and helps us with our long term planning.

Securities and Stock Gifts

ACC accepts gifts of stocks and securities. There are tax advantages to the donor for donating publicly traded stocks. It is important to notify ACC BEFORE you complete your request to your broker. To ensure that your gift is properly credited and recognized, please contact us.

Endowments
An endowment fund is a fund that is maintained in perpetuity. A portion of the interest earned is used for the specific purpose of the endowment as specified by the donor. The remainder of the investment is returned to principal.

Memorial/Honorary Gifts
A memorial gift honors someone who has passed away. An honorary gift acknowledges a date, special event, or person.

Planned Gifts
Planned gifts in the form of a bequest can ensure the future of ACC. There are often tax advantages to making a planned gift, which can maximize your financial security.

Matching Gifts
A number of corporations will match or triple your gift to ACC. This provides the corporation a way to support its community and/or support the non-profit organizations that its employees feel are important to them. Please contact your company’s human resources office to determine if your company is part of the matching gift program.

Gifts-in-Kind
ACC welcomes gifts from your personal collection that will enhance a program or event.

Corporate and Foundation Giving
Gifts from Foundations and Corporations enhance student scholarship funds, programs, facilities, and services to children.
